For Our Tween & Teen IOP Programs

Since COVID-19, we have seen exponential levels of anxiety, depression, self- harm, school refusal, and maladaptive behaviors in our adolescent population, leaving families stuck and frustrated and childrens and teens very vulnerable. The Academy for Kids IOP was created as a program for parents and children to receive evidence-based treatment for lifelong mental health and recovery. The Academy for Kids IOP is an intensive outpatient program (IOP) at our 300 Hebron Ave. Suite 203, Glastonbury CT location. We conduct the program Monday through Thursday from 5-8 pm. This schedule allows work and school schedules to remain intact. Parents attend at least once to twice a week with their kids to learn the DBT skills being taught in the program. This allows the integration of the skills in the home. The typical length of the program is 8- 12 weeks.

We Are Setting The
Standard For IOP Care

We are setting the standard for IOP care. Our clinicians and medical staff are very experienced and fully licensed. On our IOP staff, we have a full medical staff and a full therapeutic staff that work as a team to create customized treatment strategies that create real positive change for the child and their families. Each IOP staff member has 10 to 30 years of experience working with adolescents in various settings. The Academy for Kids IOP is licensed by the state of CT.

We Incorporate A Number Of Other Treatment Modalities

While DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) is the core of the Academy for Teens IOP, we incorporate a number of other treatment modalities, such as the integration of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, Behavioral Therapy, coaching, yoga, music, and art therapies, and hands-on experiential activities. These services are designed to: (A) promote mental health and improve functioning in kids and families; and (B) effectively decrease the prevalence and incidence of mental illness, emotional disturbance ,and social dysfunctioning.

As a parent, you have been a breath of fresh air in my experiences with supporting my child. Unfortunately, it is rare to find professionals so human...so open to wanting feedback and in that way, showing a true and honest desire to do the best job you can. You truly put your clients first. Thank you for being a gift to our lives and the lives of all the teens and tweens who will go through the IOP."

"We previously shared during consultation the difficulties M. had during first grade and how some of those behaviors carried into his summer activities and schedule. When our family found Hopewell we were in a desperate place for help, it seemed that we had hit a glass ceiling with him and the weekly therapy appeared to be of little success. It was such a glimmer of hope, support and possibility for improvement when we received a call back saying we can take him. We all knew it would be challenging considering he’s only 7; however, and I quote I was told “we like a challenge and we’re gonna throw everything at him we got”. Your team did just that and didn’t give up on him and for that we are grateful. We are most proud that our little, intelligent, funny, hyperactive, impulsive little man was able to keep up with the demand of the schedule. Of course, there were a few hiccups and the ride was sometimes bumpy but we made it. I hope that out of a hundreds words he at least retained one. I think the information was a lot for him but he persevered, he showed up, he participated, did his homework and that’s all we can ask for. Because of your willingness to accept M. we as a family felt better about his transition into 2nd grade. Prior to the IOP experience and working with Trina Martin we wouldn’t be here today. We look forward to the smooth transition to weekly therapy with Taylor. Again thank you for your patience, commitment, getting to know him and dedication in providing M. with tools for self regulation. Have a great weekend and we’ll see you next week!"

"To be honest, I was really unsure about IOP before we started at Hopewell. P. does not like groups and is shy, but we knew we needed to do something different and we trusted the Hopewell Team to give IOP a try. Eight weeks later, we are immensely happy that we took the leap and so proud of P. and the work she has done - we see great improvements at home and school and we have built a system for communicating about strong feelings that feels sustainable. Our family is better and thank you Sandra and the HHS Team for getting us there!"

"I just completed Teen IOP at Hopewell and I feel I received the tools I need to go to college with less worry and anxiety. I really liked the groups and the other kids and the therapists a lot. At first, I did not always like going and then I started looking forward to it , because it was making me better."

"I feel supported and open when I am here. I am allowed to be sad, awful, or happy. No one judges me. I have also been exposed to more social environments which I now like. Since joining IOP, I have become more talkative and stopped hating myself as much which I still want to improve. I like how they open conversations and allow people to have different opinions. I have learned my feelings are okay and people here support my values and feelings."

"Kayla, Kaitlyn, and the HHS Team have been amazing to work with. My child has said that they are much happier and that they have not felt happy in a while. She has made friends in the group and is normally very shy. I have noticed the way she talks about her feelings is different and she has actually taught me some DBT tools at home. I feel lucky that she is having this experience at 12 and hoping that her teen years will be better due to the help she is getting now."
