Welcome to Hopewell Health Solutions! We’re so excited that you are considering us for an intensive outpatient program. Starting an IOP can be a big step in your journey toward recovery. It’s completely normal to feel a mix of emotions - nervousness, uncertainty, and even excitement! If you’re preparing to start our IOP, you might have questions about what to expect on your first day. Knowing what’s ahead can help reduce anxiety and prepare you for a productive, enjoyable experience. Here’s a breakdown of what you can expect!

A Warm Welcome

  • On your first day, you’ll be greeted by staff members who understand how intimidating the process can feel. Staff will help you sign in and find a comfortable place to sit. At Hopewell Health Solutions, we focus on creating a welcoming and supportive environment right from the start. You will meet your program coordinator, as well as any therapists and counselors who will be guiding you through the process.

Introductions to Other Group Members and Staff

  • One of the most rewarding aspects of IOP is the opportunity to connect with others who are going through similar experiences and reduce feelings of isolation that can come with mental health symptoms. On your first day, you will have the opportunity to meet other participants in group sessions or on breaks. You’ll hear a variety of perspectives, and while everyone’s journey is unique, shared experiences can be a source of strength and support. IOP isn’t just about treatment - it’s about building a supportive community. On your first day, you’ll begin to understand that you’re a part of a larger team that includes therapists, peers, and support staff, all working together to help you reach your goals.

An Overview of the Program and Group Norms

  • You will get a brief orientation about the structure of your IOP. This includes the daily schedule, the types of therapy you will be participating in, and opportunities to ask any questions you might have. You’ll also be informed of the expectations for attendance, participation and confidentiality as well as group norms to ensure a positive experience for all. Expect to hear what group therapy sessions are like, what to expect in individual check ins, and rules regarding things like phone use, breaks and safety protocols. This helps set the tone for your participation so you know what to expect and how the program operates.

An Introduction to Group Therapy

  • A key component to our IOP is group therapy and your first day will typically include two group sessions. During these groups, you’ll meet others who are on a similar journey. Group therapy is a safe space where individuals come together to share experiences, support one another, and learn coping strategies. At first, it might feel intimidating to open up in front of others, but keep in mind that group therapy is often a source of comfort and connection. It’s normal to feel nervous, but you can expect a respectful, non-judgmental environment. We encourage you to take your time getting acclimated to the group - feel free to just listen and absorb the group at first.

Scheduling

  • The schedule for IOP can vary from program to program at Hopewell Health Solutions depending on the time of the program and the type of program you’re in
  • Components of the IOP nightly schedule include:
    • Check In (an opportunity to check in about your day and how you are feeling.)
    • Two Group Sessions (discussions, psychoeducation, skills, and strategies)
    • Meal Break (you are welcome to bring in whatever you would like)
    • Social Activity
    • Individual Check-Ins (each group member will have a 1:1 check in with a therapist at least once a week, but also as needed)

Your first day of IOP may feel overwhelming at times, but it’s an important milestone in your recovery. With a welcoming atmosphere, clear expectations and supportive staff, you’re taking the right steps toward healing. Remember, the first day is just the beginning, and you will likely find that as time goes on, you’ll gain confidence, self-awareness, and coping strategies that will help you thrive. Stay open to the process, trust the journey, and remember that you don’t have to face it alone. Your IOP team and fellow group members are there to help and support you as your work toward a healthier, happier future.

We’re glad you’re here.
